With tools like drones and AI-driven image analysis, INSPIRE – a project by Our Mission Ocean and CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency endorsed by the #OceanDecade – joins partners at VITO Remote Sensing, River Cleanup and the VLIZ - Flanders Marine Institute to change the cleanup game by leveraging the latest tech. And, they work with citizen scientists across Europe to help understand and beat plastic pollution from inland areas right down to the coasts. ?? Innovation in action: tackling plastic pollution with INSPIRE! ?? On this International Day of Action for Rivers, we are proud to share the first results with the press and showcase the technologies and solutions we are testing in the innovative INSPIRE project, in collaboration with VLIZ - Flanders Marine Institute and VITO. With support from the Aldermen Brigitte Caura of Lokaal bestuur Temse municipality, we have installed our first smart EcoBin on Belgian soil! This innovative solution is now being tested in Temse to refine its impact before rolling it out in Indonesia and Cameroon ?? ?? TODAY was International Day of Action for Rivers! ?? ?? Tackling plastic pollution with innovative technologies & great collaboration within the Inspire Europe project! ?? ?? Plastic pollution in rivers is a major environmental challenge, with millions of tonnes of plastic waste reaching the ocean each year. The INSPIRE project, supported by the European Commission and in line with targets set with Mission Ocean, is taking a proactive, holistic approach to address this challenge, combining research, innovation and citizen participation to reduce plastic waste in major rivers. The #Scheldt is one of the six test zones across Europe, and today, VITO, River Cleanup and VLIZ - Flanders Marine Institute proudly showcased innovative detection, collection and analysis methods in Temse.
