?? Waiver of Informed Consent in Clinical Research: Key Takeaways from Recent Paper in BMJ Open ?? Informed consent is a cornerstone of ethical medical research. But what happens when requiring individual consent creates barriers to conducting vital low-risk studies? Our work at Insight Therapeutics, LLC was referenced in a recent paper by Siriwardana et al. in BMJ Open (February 2025) exploring how global guidelines address waivers of consent in clinical research. ?? Key Insights: ? Waivers may be appropriate for low-risk, pragmatic clinical research embedded in routine healthcare. ? Three core criteria appear across international guidelines: 1?? The research must not be feasible without the waiver. 2?? The study must hold significant social value. 3?? The risk to participants must be minimal. ? Additional ethical considerations include protecting participant rights, privacy, and ensuring transparency. ?? Insight Therapeutics, LLC has deep experience in leveraging this approach to conduct vital research in older adults. Let’s discuss!
