Moving from mass incarceration to mass rehabilitation, one circle at a time.
关于我们
Inside Circle is a healing community that runs programs within prisons and the community with the aim of empowering system-impacted people. At our core, we’re centered around the respect we have for our members and we lead change from within by providing opportunities for currently and formerly incarcerated people to heal and better serve themselves and others. What’s now referred to as Inside Circle took shape after a race riot occurred in New Folsom prison in 1996. Several inmates were seriously hurt, one fatally. This had a huge impact on inmate Patrick Nolan who saw the pain and hopelessness of the environment and had a vision to shift this dynamic from the inside. Our key mission is to reduce recidivism and build social-emotional literacy to remove all forms of violence in our prisons and wider communities. By using the power of human connection found in our peer-guided healing circles, we create the space for members to heal, transform lives, and positively impact systems by reducing violence inside and outside of adult and juvenile prisons. Prisons don’t heal, but in our experience, circles do. Tune in to our podcast at: https://insidecircle.org/podcast/ Check out our documentary at: https://www.topic.com/the-work

ManKind Project Nederland en Vlaanderen Khalil Chait Eileen Ruiter and many more people contributed to and made it possible for Inside Circle to travel to The Nederlands and aid in preparing volunteers to enter the Zaanstad Justice Center to begin the first Inside Circle inspired spaces in that country. Dr. James McLeary and I spent our first week there supporting the training of 47 community members who will serve as the pool of weekly volunteers. We were then able to accompany the first group of individuals inside where we screened "The Work" documentary and sat in the very first Dutch Inside Circle. Tremendous team of kindred spirits. Thank you Eileen Ruiter for being the driving force behind this mission.

Our team on a recent trip to New Jersey and sitting in circle with staff from The H.U.B.B. (Help Us Become Better). From there we went to an end of year dinner with the extended team that works on our YAE (YOUNG ADULT EMPOWERMENT) initiative supporting young folks in the New Jersey Juvenile Justice Commission. We then rounded things out with circles in Brooklyn partnering with Bridgestreet Development Corporation, Columbia University and Both Sides of the Violence with Project Restore Bedstuy. Working to finish the year strong.
