The Holiday Inroads Mixer was such a good experience. INROADS made such a positive impact on my life when I was an intern at Texaco, and I am grateful that it continues to be useful to young people and their careers. It was so neat to see INROADS alumni like David Wilson and Alisha Small as well as meet dedicated supporters like Kamilah R. Stroy and Tiffany Mosley Arterberry, MBA. Thank you, Bianca H. and team for putting together such a great event at the Buffalo Soldiers National Museum! Reading about the aha moments and the excitement of these #highschool #students in their internship experiences tied to their interests catapulted me back to my own early exposure to #communications and #journalism. Blessed to be interested in #writing and #reading at a very early age, contributing to my high school newspaper and yearbook and participating as a rising senior in the Clark College (Clark Atlanta University) High School Journalism Workshop (and living on campus!) made all the difference. I got to practice my craft all the time and get insight, guidance, exposure, direction and connections from professionals in real time. And learning how to accept constant constructive criticism in the #editing process to get to better content was humbling, instrumental and aided me when I became an editor a decade later. Even participating in INROADS in high school and realizing that I did not want to make business my primary profession was a win. All of these high school work exposure experiences (before I had five internships in college) grew my confidence in my chosen field - communications, which I continue to be excited about through all of its iterations (even now as it is being impacted by #artificialintelligence). Deep hat tip to my parents for getting me started early. #Learning through doing is so great!
