INRIX has digitized the curb in more than 125 cities using an approach that doesn’t require assets. Working with the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) as?part of their U.S. Department of Transportation SMART Grant, we have completed an integration of SF’s signs, paint, meters, and other assets into our Parking and Curb Analytics tools. Read what our Chief Product Officer, Ahmed Darrat, has to say about this “Belt and Suspenders” approach. https://lnkd.in/gmAwaCXx

Thanksgiving is typically one of the busiest holidays for road trips over 50 miles. This year, nearly 72 million drivers are expected on the roads — 1.3 million more travelers than 2023, and more than the 70.6 million drivers who traveled by car for Thanksgiving 2019. With more vehicles on the road as commuters and holiday travelers mix, we expect traffic to peak nationally on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 26 and 27. If you need to travel either day, leave before 10 a.m. https://lnkd.in/gvjprXMJ

Nearly 80 million travelers are expected to travel over the Thanksgiving holiday, according to AAA. If you're traveling by car, we expect Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons to be the worst days/times to be on the road as holiday-goers and commuters mix. “With a record number of travelers expected to be on the road, drivers should follow traffic apps and local news alerts to avoid major delays,”?said Bob Pishue, transportation analyst at INRIX. “This is especially important for drivers in metropolitan areas like Boston, New York, LA, Seattle, and Washington, DC, where traffic is expected to be more than double what it typically is on a normal day.”? I was honored early last week to represent INRIX in introducing the opening session at the Open Mobility Foundation Summit. During my remarks I had the opportunity to discuss how we've partnered with a number of agencies leveraging the U.S. Department of Transportation SMART program to rapidly expand the use cases for the Mobility Data Specification (MDS) and Curb Data Specification (CDS): ?? With San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), we are using CDS and the soon to be approved CDS Objects to provide the first publicly available, full city map that brings together both curb policies and sign assets. ?? ?? With Portland Bureau of Transportation, we merged citywide CDS with e-cargo bike data and thousands of truck/passenger trips into MDS supporting operations from B-Line Sustainable Urban Delivery and planning for future zones. ? In another city that can’t quite be named yet, we are for the first time extending MDS Policies to the full right of way (yes, sidewalks, curbs and travel lanes) to support mobility providers with real time roadway alerts like construction, emergency response, events, and incidents tied to physical assets, not just floating virtual geographies. This is a huge step forward for construction coordination and AV readiness! ? Finally, in one last city, we are merging CDS data with safety data like crashes and near misses to analyze the impact of curb policies. If any cities are interested in these products and would like more info please feel free to reach out! Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council (UK) was awarded the Department for Transport’s Traffic Signals Obsolescence Grant (TSOG) funding in the spring to replace unreliable and obsolete equipment, increasing functionality and reduce energy consumption. A before-and-after comparison of corridor journey times has shown an almost 4% improvement since work was carried out. “In this one initial quick analysis we have found a significant improvement travel times from this funding,” said Dominic Paulo, senior director of EMEA public sector.?“Considering the TSOG money was simply to replace obsolete and update existing equipment, it is impressive to see the difference. It will be very interesting and exciting to see what effect the investment has had on GLF projects and also the other TSOG projects." Read more in this Highways News article: https://lnkd.in/eGwv94nx
