The Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library is currently under construction on a remote, rugged site in the Badlands of North Dakota. 115 years since he left the White House, we’re still learning from the "conservation president's" life-long passion for nature and self-sufficiency. This kind of passion motivates our own approach to merge innovation and compassion, art and engineering. For generations, water has sculpted this remote, rugged landscape. So, as civil engineers on the project, it’s our responsibility to take a sensitive approach to water management that adapts to the natural ecology and integrates with the land. Sherwood's Project Manager and skilled photographer, Matthew Coleman, PE, recently visited the site and nearby Theodore Roosevelt National Park and took these photographs of the stunning landscape. They illustrate perfectly the way water—nature—creates forms akin to a hand pressed into clay. These are the natural cues we follow in our approach to engineering. Designed by Sn?hetta and JLG Architects, the project considers what’s best for the land’s long-term resilience through innovative infrastructure that is both sustainable and beautiful, and that contributes to the project’s goal to meet the Living Building Challenge and operate as net positive for energy, water, emissions, and waste. The team is designing an innovative wastewater treatment and reuse system, nature-based stormwater management system, and rigorous erosion control solutions for the Library's exquisite site. Read our full story here: https://lnkd.in/ep4B-VVp And stay tuned, as we’ll share more in the months ahead as the Library anticipates its grand opening on July 4, 2026. We’re proud to be part of this great team: ? Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library Foundation (TRPLF) – owner ? Sn?hetta – Design Architecture and Landscape Design Architect ?
