Today marks IEF’s 15 year anniversary! Over the past 15 years, our 501(c)3 nonprofit has run 14 Formula Sun Grand Prix track events, 8 American Solar Challenge road events, 5 IEF Solar Car Conferences, and also provided the technical coordination for the Abu Dhabi Solar Challenge 2015. More than 50 university teams have participated in FSGP/ASC events – teams from the United States, and also Canada, Australia, Italy, and more. Those teams represent thousands of students participating in these experiential, multi-disciplined, hands-on, STEM opportunities to put their innovative solar vehicle designs to the ultimate endurance test both on the track and on the road – opportunities that help them build the skills that will help them have successful future careers. In addition to the teams, IEF is thankful for those that make these events possible: our incredible volunteers, partners, sponsors, location hosts and board of directors. We couldn’t have done the last 15 years without you! Those first years were lean years, and it is exciting to see how the solar car events have grown, with more people, organizations, and companies getting involved with the solar car community to champion engineering excellence and friendly competition through the FSGP/ASC events.
