Who would you trust your life with: - Someone putting on a boastful facade, or - Someone who knows their real strengths and weaknesses? The second option is what's needed on the front line of conflict. We learned that from podcast guest Diego Ugalde, who points out that kind of authenticity is needed in corporate leadership, too. In this week's newsletter, we expand on several ways Diego has learned on abandoning militaristic command-and-control for a more conscious style of leadership. That employee who needs a performance check ASAP before hurting the rest of the team? It's...you. Elite leadership begins by knowing yourself. Poor leaders often take their personal issues out on their teams -- usually without realizing it. But elite leaders start by digging deep and honestly assessing themselves first. In turn, their teams become elite performers. Our guest Diego Ugalde has been on this journey, starting with his tenure in the high-demand job of a Navy SEAL. Catch his insights in our latest podcast; it's live now on Podbean at https://lnkd.in/eaF2kZc4, on YouTube at https://lnkd.in/eJYVUgAk, or on your favorite podcast platform by searching for “Innovating Leadership: Co-Creating Our Future.”

Know thyself. That was inscribed here at the Temple of Apollo, home of the Oracle of Delphi. Over 2,000 years later, Diego Ugalde says it's time for leaders to pay attention to those words. Diego will be our guest on our next podcast. After retiring from the #NavySEALs, he continued his leadership journey...and realized that leading internally -- getting to truly know yourself -- is far more effective than old-school hierarchical leadership. He digs into the details as he chats with host Maureen Metcalf, MBA. The interview goes live tomorrow (18 March) at noon ET on Podbean at https://lnkd.in/eaF2kZc4, on YouTube at https://lnkd.in/eJYVUgAk, or just search for "Innovating Leadership: Co-Creating Our Future" on your favorite podcast provider. "Good afternoon, Seattle. I'm listening." You're telling us that #Frasier Crane's opening line may reveal the single most important quality in a good leader. It's newsletter day; this week's is based on our podcast with Subhanu Saxena, and contains four steps to help stop today's divisive environment to unify your teams in the workplace. #2 is for leaders to listen...genuinely listen to their team members. The top reader comments? How most readers' bosses DON'T listen, and the frustration that creates with the rank-and-file. Check out the newsletter for yourself at https://lnkd.in/esDNSF8z, then let us know in the comments below how YOU feel about this. We're listening.

Your ego is getting in the way. Too often, leaders don’t really know themselves very well. That leads to their egos, large or small, calling the shots: they react instead of respond, they draw lines in the sand on their own opinions instead of listening to staff or data, and generally end up causing divisiveness in their team or organization. The solution? Know thyself. So says this week’s podcast guest, Subhanu Saxena. In this remixed episode, the former regional director for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation shares the wisdom he’s earned through broad experiences – including the importance of self-awareness, introspection, and the Five Person Rule for gaining critical insights. Here’s something to think about: Actually thinking about something. Subhanu Saxena is our podcast guest this week. In this remastered episode, he shares multiple tips on mindful leadership. Most notably, in this era of fast decisions, he reminds us that the best decisions are made after getting multiple viewpoints, then reflecting for a time. Moving fast without doing your homework? Well, that just leads to much bigger risks down the road. Through the years, Subhanu has developed multiple pointers for mindful leading. He shares them with us in tomorrow’s podcast, which goes live at noon ET on Podbean at https://bit.ly/ILA-Mindful and YouTube at https://lnkd.in/eAc3XWHf.

Here's our CEO and Founder, Maureen Metcalf, MBA, absorbed in learning from former HP CEO Carly Fiorina during a leadership summit last month at James Madison University. Maureen was there to lead a panel on the leadership ramifications of #AI. But this photo is what we love about working with her: she's ceaselessly hungry for new information on leadership, constantly updating our leadership development framework as a result. And her favorite updates are the experiences and wisdom from real-world leaders like Carly. That's why Maureen enjoys our podcasts; every week, she gets to interview a new leadership luminary. We'll try to sneak a peek at her notes from Carly's speech to share some keen highlights here later. In the meantime, check out the incredible bank of knowledge from our 262 podcasts on Podbean at https://lnkd.in/gq7r_v5H, or watch them on YouTube at https://lnkd.in/ehjJwp7C.

You're probably a better leader than most presidents and prime ministers. That's one big takeaway we have from this week's newsletter from our CEO and founder. It's based on her interview with researchers who uncovered the eight characteristics of a nation most likely to have peace. Then we realized each of those characteristics has a direct parallel to what good leaders do in the everyday workplace. Check out the newsletter at https://lnkd.in/eGMYaWHv, and see how you already measure up with those powerful folks in national capitols!

Why is it all about violence? That thought hit Australian tech leader Steve Killelea. When the entrepreneur-cum-philanthropist turned his leadership acumen toward peace, he realized most studies framed peace and stability through a lack of violence. But that’s just one outward sign of peace…not a root cause leaders can replicate. So Steve set to work, and through his Institute for Economics & Peace think tank, determined the eight pillars of positive peace. He shares them with us and International Leadership Association board chair Mike Hardy in this week’s new podcast episode. Discover Steve's eight pillars – and how you can use them in your own organization – on Podbean now at https://bit.ly/ILA-Peace, watch on YouTube at https://lnkd.in/en3_rKki, or search for “Innovating Leadership: Co-Creating Our Future” on your favorite podcast platform.
