I am absolutely fascinated by the intersection of coffee and innovation. With that in mind, I’ve charted out some of my favorite cafe stops along The Innovation Trail of Greater Boston that are totally on theme.

These cafes are pioneering in their own right – whether that’s how they’ve advanced coffee quality and culture, their innovative?latte art, or in the unique experience they create for their guests. These cafes also serve as third spaces for many people that are part of Cambridge and Boston’s innovation economy – where early-stage co-founders meet, where prototypes are sketched on napkins (I’ve seen it happen!), where networking emails are sent, and where creative thinking work occurs. Truly, a lot can happen over a cup of coffee.
From George Howell and Ogawa Coffee in Downtown Boston to Vester, Shy Bird and Life Alive Café in Kendall Square, not all of these cafés fit a particular mold, and while they're certainly not the only coffee shops in the area, they all have something unique to offer.
As a devotee of the Boston coffee scene, these are my "most innovative" picks along the way– but I also post regularly about #specialtycoffee and local, independent business on Instagram at @caffeinatedliv, where you can find more real-time, shorter-form Boston coffee content.
