Innovation Quarter (www.innovationquarter.com) is a vibrant, mixed-use innovation district located in downtown Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Anchored by Wake Forest University School of Medicine, the Innovation Quarter is home to a community of more than 3,700 workers in 90 companies and four other institutions of higher learning where almost 1,800 degree-seeking students come to learn every day. In addition to more than 1,100 residential units, the Innovation Quarter also features a dynamic urban park, publicly accessible greenway and free community events that make this a true “Live.Work.Learn.Play” community.

Today, the iQ is known for cultivating a spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation in downtown Winston-Salem. But the iQ wasn’t the first to do so. Starting in the 1880s, the area that is now the iQ encompassed several historic Black neighborhoods that supported a thriving district of Black-owned businesses, from grocers to restaurants, dentist offices to barbershops. Ready, set, GO! The countdown to Techstars Startup Weekend AI & Life Sciences in Innovation Quarter Sparq Coworking is up. Now, you have 54 thrilling hours of entrepreneurial adrenaline. During those 54 hours, participants will learn from a panel of entrepreneurial experts, mentors, experienced entrepreneurs, and each other. Participants bring ideas for new businesses–nothing established–and form teams that research the idea, get advice from subject matter experts and experienced entrepreneurs, and present a pitch at the end of the weekend to win prizes that help them further the business idea. “We’re calling everybody to come and bring an idea. If there’s something maybe you’ve been thinking about and you want to bring it to life, come,” Kami Leslie, VisionToVenture.org's director of community development and events, says.
