#hailtothestartup! MLive recently highlighted University of Michigan startup APT Solar Solutions, which manufactures 3-D solar lights. The article showcased the implementation of APT Solar’s solar lights in the Keweenaw Dark Sky Park in the Upper Peninsula. APT Solar Solutions developed motion-activated red lights for use on the park’s trails, which helps visitors see in the dark without creating light pollution. HistoSonics, Inc., a University of Michigan startup focused on providing noninvasive sonic beam therapy called histotripsy, recently announced their exclusive contract to supply Edison Histotripsy Systems to Veterans Affairs hospitals across the country. The agreement with the Veterans Health Administration and the Strategic Acquisition Center establishes $90M in ongoing funding to establish histotripsy treatment centers. The Edison Histotripsy system treats liver tumors with minimal invasion using sonic beams which can destroy liver tumors at a sub-cellular level. Raymar Hampshire, product lead for the Public Interest Technology Knowledge Network at the Michigan Institute for Data and AI in Society, will be speaking at this year’s Public Interest Technology University Network (PIT-UN) Summit from Nov. 7-8 at San Jose State University. Hampshire’s talk, titled “Designing Organizations for Inclusive Technologies,” will discuss the crucial link between organizational design and inclusive technology. In his work with the Public Interest Technology Network, Hampshire is the co-creator of the Braid platform, an open-source vocational storytelling community and knowledge network for students, researchers and practitioners. Braid is supported by the Michigan Open-Source Software program,? a pilot initiative by Innovation Partnerships, to comprehensively support open source projects.
