Science Minister Lord Vallance has?announced Professor Sir Ian Chapman as our new Chief Executive Officer. He will succeed Professor Dame Ottoline Leyser who decided last year not to seek a second term when her 5-year secondment comes to an end in June. Prof Ian Chapman is the Chief Executive Officer of the UK Atomic Energy Authority. He is currently a member of the UKRI Board, a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and an elected Fellow of the Royal Society.??He will take up his role at UKRI in the summer. Lord Vallance said:?“Growing the economy is this government’s number one mission and taking full advantage of the innovative ideas, talent and facilities across our country is key to reaching that goal and improving lives across the UK. “Sir Ian’s leadership experience, scientific expertise and academic achievements make him an exceptionally strong candidate to lead UKRI in pursuing ambitious, curiosity-driven research, as well as innovations that will unlock new benefits for the UK’s people and drive our Plan for Change. ?“We also thank Dame Ottoline Leyser ahead of her stepping down this summer, recognising her pivotal work in guiding UKRI through challenging times, notably during the Covid pandemic and through the UK’s return to participation in Horizon Europe.” Full story: https://lnkd.in/dBxGrX7B

Oxford Drug Design is progressing small molecule, locally-acting enzyme inhibitors for oral therapy of urinary tract infections Ineos Oxford Institute for Antimicrobial Research (IOI) for Antimicrobial Research is optimising a new class of broad-spectrum cell wall transpeptidase inhibitors PhalconBio is advancing dual-action, inhalable phage treatments for bronchiectasis-associated ?????????????????????? ???????????????????? infections Justus Liebig University Giessen Giessen in partnership with INFEX Therapeutics are optimising a membrane-targeting bicyclic heptapeptide for treatment of Gram-negative infections They join the portfolio along with ArrePath, Centauri Therapeutics Limited, GLOX Therapeutics Ltd., The University of Sheffield and Xiretsa as announced in November 2024. The support from PACE-AMR will help these projects advance their innovative technologies toward the clinic, accelerating the development of new antibiotics to tackle the global challenge of AMR. PACE-AMR is a collaboration between Innovate UK, LifeArc and Medicines Discovery Catapult which aims to accelerate early-stage translational innovation to tackle AMR.
