Many of us our still trying to catch our breath after a whirlwind AASA, The School Superintendents Association's in New Orleans last week, while hitting the ground running this week. At the same time I wanted to take a minute to reflect on both the amazing connections made--some planned and some serendipitous--as well as the stellar program. You know the program is really good when you're "triple-booked" with must-see sessions to attend at every time slot. I was particularly intrigued by the commitment to Generative AI Track and was drawn to two hugely insightful sessions moderated by friend and Future of Education Technology Conference's Jennifer Womble. Both sessions brought to the table District Leaders that have shown courage and commitment to adopting innovative AI-driven resources and processes to their districts. The first, AI-Powered Superintendents Solutions: Expert Insights on Overcoming District Challenges, was a compelling blend of best practice and deployable strategy that acknowledged and offered advice on how best to navigate politics and polarizing factors. The second session, Future-Forward Education: Redesigning Learning with AI and Technology, was a creative, yet clear-eyed exploration and discussion around bringing various AI-driven technology and resources into the classroom with a very healthy dose of caution and a commitment to safety, security, and accuracy. Although I was very sorry to have missed last Saturday's session, several Superintendents joined Google's Dr. Kristal Ayres to discussed how they moved from developing AI policies to practically integrating its use among staff, teachers and students. These discussions around best practice--and the pursuit of tackling the challenges of AI governance and implementation in districts--are mission critical to districts' future direction and ability to prepare their students for an evolving AI-driven workforce climate!
