IPTX works to free the innocent, reform criminal justice practices and educate the public about wrongful convictions
关于我们
Innocence Project of Texas (IPTX) is one of the leading innocence organizations in the country having freed 34 people since 2006. IPTX is dedicated to correcting past injustices, preventing future wrongful convictions and giving hope to people who feel they are out of options. The rate of wrongful convictions is estimated between 2% and 6% meaning that thousands of Texans are incarcerated today for crimes they did not commit. IPTX investigates claims of innocence and provides the wrongfully convicted with legal counsel at no cost. Our team evaluates over 1,000 innocence claims per year. At IPTX, we know that it is not enough to free the wrongfully convicted from incarceration. We have a responsibility to work toward a system that does not allow wrongful convictions to happen in the first place. We work to bring meaningful change in Texas to help achieve our vision that no one shall have their liberty wrongfully taken from them. One of our most important goals is to educate the public about wrongful convictions. Staff, along with exonerees, regularly speak to legal professionals, universities, civic and religious organization and others to shine a light on the causes and consequences of wrongful convictions. Community support is critical to ensuring that IPTX can continue its work to exonerate, reform and educate. Learn more about how you can be a part of our work to free the innocence by visiting our website or following us on social media.
