IPTX works to free the innocent, reform criminal justice practices and educate the public about wrongful convictions
关于我们
Innocence Project of Texas (IPTX) is one of the leading innocence organizations in the country having freed 34 people since 2006. IPTX is dedicated to correcting past injustices, preventing future wrongful convictions and giving hope to people who feel they are out of options. The rate of wrongful convictions is estimated between 2% and 6% meaning that thousands of Texans are incarcerated today for crimes they did not commit. IPTX investigates claims of innocence and provides the wrongfully convicted with legal counsel at no cost. Our team evaluates over 1,000 innocence claims per year. At IPTX, we know that it is not enough to free the wrongfully convicted from incarceration. We have a responsibility to work toward a system that does not allow wrongful convictions to happen in the first place. We work to bring meaningful change in Texas to help achieve our vision that no one shall have their liberty wrongfully taken from them. One of our most important goals is to educate the public about wrongful convictions. Staff, along with exonerees, regularly speak to legal professionals, universities, civic and religious organization and others to shine a light on the causes and consequences of wrongful convictions. Community support is critical to ensuring that IPTX can continue its work to exonerate, reform and educate. Learn more about how you can be a part of our work to free the innocence by visiting our website or following us on social media.

We have 10 days to save the life of an innocent man. Add your voice to the growing chorus of people calling for clemency for #RobertRoberson by calling Governor Abbot now.

Today is the 11th Annual International Wrongful Conviction Day, a day to raise awareness about the innocence movement and recognize the profound importance of pursuing the truth. With Robert Roberson facing execution in just 15 days, we are asking you to raise your voice today to help save the life of an innocent man. Last week, the State of Missouri executed Marcellus Williams despite significant evidence of his innocence and the objections of the victim's family and the prosecutor's office. Together, we must stop the State of Texas from making the same irreversible mistake. Without intervention from the state, Robert will be executed on October 17th for a crime that never happened. He would be the first person in the U.S. executed based on the junk science hypothesis of "shaken baby syndrome." Robert has spent over 20 years on death row despite overwhelming evidence that his daughter's death was the result documented medical issues. Last week, a bipartisan group of 86 Texas legislators urged the Board of Pardons and Paroles to recommend clemency for Robert. His supporters include dozens of scientists and medical professionals and the lead detective in his case. Be a part of the fight to #SaveRoberson by adding your voice. HERE'S HOW YOU CAN HELP - TEXANS: Call Gov. Abbott and urge him to stop the execution: 361-264-9653 - Text “ROBERT” to 97016 to join his advocacy team. - Sign Robert’s petition and help us reach 100,000 supporters: https://saveroberson.org/ - Share Robert’s story far and wide using the social media toolkit: https://lnkd.in/gRZKcGG4 - Create a 30-second compelling video for Instagram and TikTok
