Every year at our Gala, we present the John Thompson Award for Courage & Justice to someone who has dedicated their life to shedding light on injustices and who stands for truth at all times. This year's award will be presented to Sister Helen Prejean! Sister Helen, author of "Dead Man Walking: An Eyewitness Account of the Death Penalty in the United States", has spent decades tirelessly advocating to end the death penalty. She has been instrumental in sparking national dialogue on capital punishment and in shaping the Catholic Church’s vigorous opposition to all executions. Sister Helen now spends her time educating the public, campaigning against the death penalty, counseling individual death row prisoners, and working with murder victims’ family members. It is such a privilege and honor to present Sister Helen with this award at our Gala on September 14th, and we would love for you all the be there too. https://lnkd.in/g8sjPXQa

We are ecstatic to present Brett Venn with our Pro Bono Award at this year's "Oh, Freedom!" Gala. This is only the second time in IPNO’s 23-year history that we are presenting a Pro Bono Award. Mr. Venn, a partner at Jones Walker LLP in the Litigation Practice Group, has devoted his time providing free legal representation to several of our clients and their families to help them navigate legal issues that are foreign to them. We truly appreciate Mr. Venn for his generosity in supporting people who have been treated unfairly and harmed by our criminal legal system.
