    10 months ago, Christen Walczak and I set out on a journey to redefine home maintenance—and what a journey it’s been. We quickly realized that while most homeowners take pride in their homes, the stress of breakdowns, projects, and the unknown can be overwhelming. Unless you’re super handy or have a great contractor on speed dial, chances are you’re not doing everything you should to avoid costly repairs or maintain a healthy home environment. Even with apps and platforms out there, no one in Chicago offers a full-service solution—a truly comprehensive maintenance program that covers everything from the roof to the basement, windows and doors to plumbing and HVAC. The industry is fragmented, leaving homeowners to rely on YouTube, Google, or sometimes questionable advice. It doesn’t have to be that way. The idea for In House came from two places: 1. My 20 years as a general contractor and developer, helping clients maintain their homes. 2. A personal need—Christen and I both lead busy lives, and we know firsthand the value of having trusted help around the house. The journey has been humbling. Building our brand, educating customers about the value of proactive home care, and growing our team has been a challenge—but also incredibly rewarding. Thanks to our amazing team and supportive clients, we’ve learned, improved, and adapted, shaping In House into something we’re incredibly proud of. Our vision is ambitious. This year, we’re doubling down on our mission to simplify homeownership for Chicagoans. We’re striving to become the leading home services provider in The City, all while staying true to our purpose: helping homeowners focus on their lives while we handle the rest. To everyone who has supported us so far—thank you. The ride is just beginning, and we can’t wait to see where it takes us.

    Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies has published a post that reminds homeowners on the rising cost of home insurance that is driving homeownership costs, but one of the major factors that is driving this is replacement costs from disaster-driven events. Homeowners should be pro-active as rising aging housing stock comes online for further investments in improvements and replacement while not causing major financial burden.
