Feature Presentation at Infraday East - December 11 - NYC - www.infraday.com/east - "Delivering renewable energy to NYC on the Champlain Hudson Power Express" - New York City’s energy transition will be foundationally supported by the delivery of hydropower from Quebec via the Champlain Hudson Power Express- the longest buried transmission line project in the United States currently under construction and slated to be in-service in May of 2026.?The 339-mile transmission line terminating in Astoria Queens will provide 20% of NYC’s annual energy needs, displace climate emissions equivalent to removing 44% of cars from the City’s roads and significantly help to reduce local air pollution prevalent in environmental justice communities located in proximity to fossil fuel power generation.?Over the course of its construction, CHPE will create 1,400 union jobs. In addition, the project’s $40 million Green Economy Fund will support workforce training to individuals living in disadvantaged communities. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) is leading efforts to transform public transportation through autonomous vehicle (AV) technology. Key pilots include the Lincoln Tunnel Express Bus Lane project (2018-2022), which demonstrated a 30% increase in capacity using connected automated buses, and the Navya shuttle trial at JFK (2022), focusing on safety and human-machine interaction. In 2023, high-speed platooning with Ohmio shuttles at JFK and a mixed-traffic AV pilot at Newark Liberty Airport (EWR) provided critical insights into AV operations. A second pilot at JFK in 2024 showcased high passenger satisfaction with minimal human intervention. Building on these initiatives, PANYNJ will partner with Beep and Oxa Ltd. for a winter-weather AV pilot at EWR in late 2024.?To further advance AV deployment, PANYNJ issued a Request for Innovation (RFI) in October 2024, inviting solutions to establish an Electric Autonomous Transportation Network at EWR, aligning with the agency’s vision for sustainable and efficient mobility.
