  • Imagine hitting a target 100 meters wide from more than 225,000 miles away while it is moving at 3,600 kilometers per hour. Well, congratulations to Firefly Aerospace, Space X, and NASA because that’s what they just did! In what is the first successful commercial landing of a spacecraft on the Moon’s surface, NASA and Firefly Aerospace's Blue Ghost Mission 1 defied the vastness of space to achieve pinpoint precision. Using the SpaceX Falcon 9 Block 5 launch vehicle, this historic touchdown marks a leap forward in commercial lunar exploration. The celebration didn’t stop there. The Italian Space Agency’s Lunar GNSS Receiver Experiment (LuGRE) payload was soon dispatched from the lander and within hours, the Goddard Space Flight Center confirmed receiving navigational signals. This opens the door for accurate navigation on the Moon’s surface for future missions. Yes, there is a lot of exciting work in the space industry - the existing CLPS IDIQ contracts alone have a cumulative maximum value of $2.6 billion through 2028.
