Growing up in Lancaster County, I have been surrounded by farmland most of my life. My grandparents were farmers, and I fondly remember helping out around the farm and in the fields during the harvest. During my summers, I worked at a local farm stand and sold fresh produce. Farming was such a part of my life that my high school actually had a “bring your tractor to school day,” and at the time I didn’t even think it was strange! I would drive through the county with my windows down with the smell of the “farm fresh” air and be oddly comforted by the familiar aroma. But if I am honest, I took a lot of this for granted.
About 18 months ago, I was asked to serve on the Lancaster Farmland Trust board. When they reached out to me, I knew next to nothing about this organization which was just down the street from where I had grown up. However, as I sat with Jeff Swinehart and he walked me through the unique history of LFT and its focus on preserving the Lancaster I love,I knew that this was an organization I would be honored to be part of.
Over the last several months I have had the unique privilege of watching my team at Infantree discover and embrace the full vision of the Lancaster Farmland Trust. We have partnered with their team to develop a strategic and hopeful campaign which will introduce and inform the public about the importance of one of Lancaster’s most precious resources: our farmland.
