OK! I am sort of back in the saddle after Hurricane Helene. First, we are all fine in my family! We actually faired quite well! Without power, water, cell or internet for 5 or so days, but that was really just an inconvenience. So many others were just devastated! It has been so wonderful and encouraging to see the communities here in Western North Carolina come together to help each other out. You can say what you like about Rural Small Town America, but these are some of the most amazing people you will ever meet. They do not care about where you are from, your political affiliation, the color of your skin, your socioeconomic status or who your family is. They simply care about humans. The sheer volume of supplies, equipment, hands on deck and effort is amazing. This is what we should be about at all times, the care of one another. I will see what I can find out about how you may be able to help financially or with effort or supplies, etc. I will ask that you do NOT just come to the area, even with good intentions to help. Please contact the Red Cross and ask where to go, how to get there, etc. The issue is that many folks are coming to the area to see the devastation and this is taking fuel, supplies, and adding congestion to the area. We need our first responders to be able to get to what they need to get to and who they need to get to. Also, a big thank you to Rhett Asher for posting for me when I was without cell. What a wonderful community we have in Retail AP! The number of text messages, phone calls, and just general reach out has been humbling for me. I can't end without also thanking all my Retailers for their herculean efforts in getting back up and running to serve those in need. Not only that, but the amount of supplies and resources that have been contributed. Many folks do not realize how well prepared the Retail industry is to respond to disasters. It may seem like a long time before you are able to get what you need, but trust me! These folks move faster than any other entity except maybe our first responders! Love and appreciation to you all!
