?? Marion County's has a new Spay/Neuter ordinance - here's what you need to know! Starting January 1, 2025, owners of unaltered dogs over six months old must register their pets annually—unless a vet certifies they cannot be spayed/neutered. The Marion County Unaltered Animal Registry is FREE, but failure to register could lead to warnings and fines. ?? Registering means committing to responsible pet ownership, including vet exams, microchipping, and litter tracking. But why go through all that when you can spay or neuter your pet for a low cost at IndyHumane? IndyHumane's Low-Cost Spay & Neuter Clinic ? Dogs: $195 (includes surgery, e-collar, pain meds, and nail trim) ? Cats: $130 (includes surgery, e-collar, pain meds, and nail trim) Prevent overpopulation, reduce health risks, and avoid the hassle of registering an unaltered pet. ?? 关于我们
IndyHumane provides direct services for cats and dogs, including adoption, foster home placement, positive reinforcement behavior training for adoptable animals, appropriate medical care, and affordable spay/neuter and low-cost vaccination services to the public. In 2019, supported by more than 600 volunteers, we provided services to more than 10,000 dogs and cats, found loving homes for more than 3,800 homeless pets, and achieved a live release rate of 96%. As a limited intake shelter, we take in as many animals as we can save every day. We do not euthanize animals for length of stay, kennel space, or cost of care. Our model for care is centered around ensuring the Five Freedoms (freedom from hunger and thirst, freedom from discomfort, freedom from pain, injury, or disease, and freedom to express normal behavior) for all our shelter animals. We are proud to have served Indianapolis since 1905.

Some cats steal your heart the moment you meet them. Others, like Petunia, take a little longer—but their love is just as special. Petunia wasn't the type to run up and greet visitors. Our team adores her and would often stop by her spot for visits, but we knew she wouldn't be adopted as quickly as some of our more outgoing cats. Despite her sweet nature, people often overlook shy kitties in favor of more social ones. That all changed when a couple walked through our doors, looking for a new member of their family. They wanted to adopt a female cat but hadn't seen many. When we introduced them to Petunia, something magical happened. ? The wife hesitated at first—her late beloved cat was also a tortie, and she wasn't sure she was ready. But then, Petunia (our shy girl) chose her. She gravitated toward the wife, soaking up affection and even running back for more pets after a snack break. Their mindset coming in? The right cat would choose them. And that's exactly what happened. Now, Petunia has a loving home where she'll get all the cuddles she wants—including from her new family's grandchildren!

Indianapolis is facing an overpopulation crisis—one with no end in sight. Shelters are overflowing, and every day, more dogs are left with nowhere to go. Large breed dogs are less likely to be adopted, and because of this are the ones who are left in our shelters. But it doesn't have to be this way. Just one unspayed dog and her offspring can produce 67,000 puppies in just six years. Now imagine the impact of hundreds of unaltered dogs in our community. The cycle is relentless, and the heartbreaking reality is that there are simply not enough homes for them all. That's why we're partnering with Wings of Rescue, FIDO, and Hoosier Fix to bring Operation Pit Stop to Indianapolis. This program will provide free spay and neuter surgeries to large-breed dogs—the ones who need it most. Thanks to a $5,000 match, every dollar you give will go twice as far. One surgery costs $195, and with this match, we can help at least 50 dogs. We have to act now to stop the suffering before it begins. Your $50 donation + $50 matched = $100 donated Your $100 donation + $100 matched = $200 donated Your $195 donation + $195 donation = Fully funded surgery, and with the match, TWO dogs get lifesaving care! Together, we can break the cycle and give these dogs the futures they deserve. Donate today: https://lnkd.in/gDHwWfV7

Some days in animal welfare are incredibly tough… but then there are days that make it all worth it. ?? An older gentleman walked through our doors, looking for a lifelong best friend. After losing his beloved pup, he realized his heart (and home) felt incomplete. He told us that as a kid on the playground, he was always picked last—so he wanted to adopt a dog who had been overlooked, a pup who needed him just as much as he needed them. Enter Peg Leg Pete! Pete had been with us for 215 days, waiting patiently for his person. Because of his hurt leg and long-term care needs, he was often passed over. But when our team suggested Pete, it just felt right. Their connection was instant. With a few treats and some chin scratches, Pete was SOLD—and so was his new dad. As if the day couldn't get any sweeter, our adopter was surprised to learn that Pete's adoption fee was fully sponsored by 317 Plumber since Pete was part of our 100 day club! ??

For the past 10 weeks, we've been treating Satine for Hypertrophic Osteodystrophy (HOD)—a painful autoimmune disease affecting large breed puppies. Her case was especially severe, impacting her joints and even her ribs. At one point, she was so sick she required hospitalization, tube feedings, and IV pain management—we weren't sure if she would survive. ?? But we didn't give up on her—and neither did our dedicated veterinary team, including Marissa Ramon, our current Purdue extern! ???? Thanks to our strong partnership with Purdue College of Veterinary Medicine, clinical-year vet students get hands-on experience in shelter medicine, working alongside our team to provide life-saving care. Marissa has been instrumental in Satine's recovery and may even be her future adopter! Not only do we save lives, but we help train the next generation of veterinarians—ensuring they gain essential experience in surgical and medical cases. Many of our externs, like Marissa, go on to work in shelter medicine, making an even bigger impact in our community! Satine is now back to being a happy, playful puppy, and we couldn't be more grateful for our team and partners who helped her heal. Our team doesn't wait to jump in and save lives, we do it right away (whether we can secure funding or not). This is where our Medical Fund comes in, so that we don't have to make incredibly tough decisions based on financial need. ??
