Queer Hoosiers and allies are welcome to gather in an afternoon of sharing gratitude and honoring the lives of past generations through history and reflection. As part of the 2024 Spirit & Place festival, attendees are invited to tour the Indiana Historical Society archives and engage in small group conversations exploring the theme of gratitude as well as queer recognition, forgetting, agency, and storytelling.
Guests will gather with members of the LGBTQ+ community and reflect on how these acts of acknowledgment, or lack of influence, and the understanding of queer communities and identity.
History professionals, alongside queer community leaders, will lend their perspectives and knowledge on the current state of Indiana preservation efforts to help connect guests with historical LGBTQ+ resources and tools. Guests will receive a behind-the-scenes tour of IHS’s LGBTQ collection and leave with a deeper sense of gratitude for past generations and the stories they’ve shared.
This event is presented in collaboration with the Indiana Historical Bureau, IYG, Indy Pride, Inc., Indiana Pride of Color , and Sylvia Thomas (artist and citizen historian).
