In a demo led by Shifu Hou, postdoctoral research associate with the Applied Analytics & Emerging Technology Lab (AETL) within the?Lucy Family Institute for Data & Society, we had a firsthand experience seeing how large language models can generate 3D files from simple prompts - with no CAD expertise needed. A challenge that was used during the demo was to generate gear files using descriptive prompts, which provided a glimpse into how emerging generative technology can evolve design and the process for creating prototypes in manufacturing. ?? 13 University of Notre Dame students gave final presentations at the end of the fall semester to four regional company partners with solutions to their data analytics?challenges. The program was founded as a collaboration between Mike Chapple, teaching professor in the University of Notre Dame - Mendoza College of Business' Department of Information Technology, Analytics, and Operations (ITAO) and iNDustry Labs at the University of Notre Dame?in 2023, after a pilot year in 2022.
