?? Exciting news for the film and media community! NYU Tisch Martin Scorsese Virtual Production Center has officially opened, nestled within the vibrant Industry City campus. ?? IC business owner Pete Abel, CEO of AbelCine, shares, “Not only will NYU students now have a leading-edge production facility in which to learn, but they will do so alongside the more than 90 media companies on the IC campus. This will spark immeasurable collaborative and creative opportunities for the students.” The center introduces a groundbreaking 36-credit Master of Professional Studies degree in Virtual Production, equipping filmmakers with cutting-edge storytelling tools. The state-of-the-art 45,586-square-foot facility boasts: - Two double-height, column-free stages - Two television studios, broadcast and control rooms - Scene workshops, post-production labs, and more Industry City's innovative approach in constructing this space, including raising the ceiling to 25 feet, reflects our commitment to creating world-class facilities where creatives do their best work. CEO David Yepez became familiar with Industry City 10 years ago when he installed a sculpture at the first Industry City Design Festival. ?? B Live – A production company specializing in TikTok Shop content for major clients like Walmart. B Live has secured 3,449 sq. ft. and is already calling Industry City home. ?? Color Atelier – Doubling their space to 3,147 sq. ft., this architectural finish manufacturer specializes in limewash paint and mineral plasters. ?? A Floral Wonderland in a Warehouse ?? We were thrilled to host CJ Hendry's latest immersive installation, Flower Market, at The Box Factory in Industry City. Initially situated on Roosevelt Island, the exhibit was suddenly closed without warning and then reassembled at IC. Visitors had a chance to engage with Hendry's remarkable colored pencil artistry up close and select their own bouquet from a stunning array of over 100,000 plush flowers to commemorate the moment. The NYU Tisch Martin Scorsese Virtual Production Center finally had its official opening! I was lucky enough to get a sneak preview earlier this summer. Some details: ?? The main screen consists of 400 ROE Visual Black Pearl BP2 2.8mm panels for a total of 7,040 x 1,760 pixels resolution. The ceiling resolution is 3,200 x 2,080 with ROE CB3s, 8 of the 600x600, and 102 of the 1200x600. Lux Machina Consulting did the integration with AbelCine. ?? NYU Tisch School of the Arts offers a 36-credit Master of Professional Studies (MPS) degree in Virtual Production. This 9-month (September-May), full-time program will provide students with an immersive, hands-on education in the emerging storytelling field through Virtual Production. ?? The curriculum includes classwork, on-set production, collaboration and apprenticeship. Learn alongside a diverse group of self-directed students, including teachers, artists, and other working professionals (writers, directors, designers, producers, cinematographers, and technical directors) seeking an immersive academic experience. ?? The facility features two 3,500-square-foot double-height, column-free stages, two 1,800-square-foot television studios, state-of-the-art broadcast and control rooms, dressing rooms and makeup areas, a cafe, scene workshops, and offices. It’s located on the top floor of Building 8 at Industry City, a 35-acre innovation campus on the Brooklyn waterfront. NYU anticipates that the project will receive LEED Platinum certification. ?? The center was made possible by a major donation, announced in 2021, from the Hobson/Lucas Family Foundations by Mellody Hobson, co-CEO of Ariel Investments, and filmmaker George Lucas. In addition to the state-of-the-art center, the gift funds the Martin Scorsese Institute of Global Cinematic Arts, Tisch’s Department of Cinema Studies, and scholarships. It is the largest gift in the history of the Tisch School of the Arts. ??
