The company built a software application in Ignition that integrates process simulation software and machine learning components. The company then entered into - and won - the 2019 GoldCorp #DistruptMining competition, a contest that focuses on digital transformation of the mining industry to optimize profitability and competitiveness. Integrator Felipe Martinez used Ignition to minimize juice loss during the packaging process for Tropicana Brand Groups. Previously, filler valves failed to consistently deliver the exact amount of product and caused operators to constantly sample the filled bottles to measure the exact weight and make manual adjustments to each valve. This was time consuming and the valves sometimes responded in a non-linear behavior. The Ignition Solution from Martinez Consulting Services-Automation LLC included: 1. Ignition gateway acting as a central hub to communicate between databases (MSSQL), PLC (SLC 500), and existing HMIs. 2. Leveraging Perspective to provide condition/status of all 96 valves using the flex repeater. 3. Situational awareness graphics to indicate which valves are operating poorly and require auto-logic to modulate the output value. 4. Using the SQL Bridge Module to Read/Write to databases and gather rejection counters per valve. 5. Python to develop iterating control scripts that provide the modulating output value for each valve based on the data received from the high/low fill detection machine. 6. Using the Reporting Module to develop an on-demand report providing the durations of valve mode (auto/manual) on operation (flow/timer) mode.
