What are the root causes behind persisting pay gaps for Native women? Kelly K. Hallman, Founder and Executive Director of Indigenous Justice Circle outlined key issues behind economic inequity in a #NativeWomensEqualPay Day interview with PowHer New York. Native women continue to face: 1. Lack of access to financial education, credit cards, and business loans 2. Caretaking responsibilities that limit their career opportunities 3. Transportation barriers 4. Lack of access to housing and increased domestic violence Watch the full video interview to hear more about historical causes of Native women's inequality, and solutions to close the wage gap. https://lnkd.in/dF6HZPck #EqualPayNY #EquityforNativeWomen

Strengthening & connecting tribal organizations to systematically invest in the rising generation to influence systems.
关于我们
Our priority areas are health equity, gender justice, and combatting the MMIWG2S crisis. We devise, test and apply Indigenous-led decolonization tools. We provide rural Tribal, urban Indian and global Indigenous communities with a convening platform to form collective movements to renew and sustain their cultural lifeways. Our work is trauma-informed and honors Indigenous histories and lived experiences. Our vision is that current and future generations of Indigenous girls/young women, boys/young men & 2SLGBTQ tell their own stories, produce their own evidence, and access resources to create the alternative futures they envision. We focus on strengths, not deficits, of Indigenous communities while recognizing the myriad challenges they face. We partner with like-minded organizations and prioritize geographic areas with high concentrations of Native Americans, First Nations and/or Indigenous peoples, engaging with sufficient spatial density to foster a meaningful hub of activity in each program location. We are steadfastly a movement, convening frequent learning exchanges across Indigenous communities. Our 501c3 nonprofit business functions are powered by @Panorama Global.

Today is #NativeWomensEqualPay Day. In New York State, Native American women earn $0.54 for every $1.00 a white non-Hispanic man does. Check out my interview with PowHer New York about how this wage gap emerged and what can be done to close it. https://lnkd.in/dqRGxR8C Indigenous Justice Circle #equalpayNY

This Veteran's Day we are honoring Native American sisters who served their country. According to the Department of Defense, American Indians and Alaska Natives have one of the highest representations in the armed forces, and Native American women are the fastest-growing population of veterans. Native American Women Warriors is a nonprofit that focuses on providing support, advocacy, and resources for Native American women who have served, or are serving, in the armed forces, addressing issues such as health care, education, and cultural preservation. Please check them out and support them in any way you can. Thank you! https://lnkd.in/ewntZSb6

Thoughts from our Founder/ED on today's historic Indian Boarding School apology from President Biden.
Enrolled Cherokee Nation ??? tribal citizen. Founder/CEO, Indigenous Justice Circle: Tribal/NGO consortium for Native women’s/girls' health, safety, citizen partic. Preventing MMIWG2S via data, programs, public educ.
My now deceased grandfather, who was taken in the 1930s to the Charles H Burke Indian Boarding School in Fort Wingate, NM, would have experienced some solace upon hearing President Biden's words today. Thank you, Joe Biden, from all of us descendants and survivors of this colonial atrocity. We now need government and philanthropic action for more health, education, financial and infrastructure investment in our communities, with special funds directed to Native women and girls who take care of everything and everyone. Given their influence in shaping the next generation, Native girls were special targets for cultural erasure lessons at these boarding schools. Please consider signing on to the NDN Collective call to action. We at Indigenous Justice Circle stand in solidarity.

We thank President Biden for this historic apology on behalf of our grandparents and parents who suffered atrocities at Indian boarding schools, and our current generations who are still carrying this intergenerational trauma. We join NDN Collective in calling for action to remove the myriad structural barriers we as Native Americans face, and for the USG and the philanthropic sector to make deeper investments to help us heal our commuties.
WE DEMAND AN APOLOGY AND ACTION! ????????? This historic apology will be the FIRST TIME the United States has acknowledged the boarding school system that was developed for the sole purpose of disrupting and eradicating Indigenous cultures, languages, and communities through Indigenous children. The acknowledgment of this injustice is merely the first step on the long journey to justice and healing for survivors of these schools and the children who did not return home. Meaningful apologies require actionable steps toward accountability, healing, and repair. WE DEMAND AN APOLOGY AND ACTION! Biden is on a deadline and needs to put his words into action. Here are 5 Demands Biden should take BEFORE the end of his Presidency: 1.) Passing the U.S. Truth & Healing Commission Bill to ensure continued funding and support for the relatives who survived boarding schools 2.) Granting immediate Executive Clemency for boarding school survivor Leonard Peltier, freeing him from his 50 year incarceration 3.) Immediately investing in Indigenous language and cultural revitalization programs 4.) Rescinding all medals of honor awarded to US soldiers for the massacre at Wounded Knee, in which 300 unarmed Lakota people – mostly women and children – were slaughtered 5.) Instructing the Bureau of Indian Education to conduct a full-scale investigation into failure by the Tuba City Boarding School system to address egregious misconduct and support the nationwide reforms being demanded by parents and students to keep children safe at BIE run schools. Check out this short video about Indigenous sexual and reproductive health rights and structural barriers to care from our Founder/Exec Dir, Dr. Kelly K. Hallman. The 1994 International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) was groundbreaking in asserting that empowering women and girls was both the right thing to do, as well as one of the most reliable pathways to sustainable development. This video from a thought leader shares insights on the intersectional nature of indigenous worldviews about population and development and the challenges indigenous people face.
