What happens when women take back their land? The Indigenous women of the Lenca community of AMIR in Honduras are leading a powerful movement toward climate resilience and gender-justice. ?? Through agroecology and land reclamation, these women are restoring ecosystems, securing food sovereignty, and fighting against the exploitation of their land. Their work shows how gender-just climate solutions can address both climate change and social inequality. Want to see more of these powerful solutions in action? ???? Yesterday we had the privilege to join 7 indigenous and traditional leaders to discuss an issue vital for environmental conservation: the role and impact of women in territorial governance. ???? Indigenous and traditional women are innate guardians of territory and the natural protectors of our planet’s biodiversity. They however, continuously face discrimination and exclusion which hinders their effective participation in territorial governance and land tenure processes. However, as attested yesterday, without their inclusion in these processes, global biodiversity conservation is compromised. Along with Marinalda Rodrigues (MIQCB), Diana Paola Lozano Moreno (OPIAC), Eddy Dariquebe (FENAMAD), Angela Kaxuyana (COIAB), Zenaida Yasacama (CONAIE), Wilma Mendoza (CNAMIB) and Sara Omi (GATC) we discussed the potential challenges women face within territorial governance processes and we listened to potential collective solutions to this problem. ?? Stay tuned for more details and takeaways from the event.
