Safeguarding Indigenous rights safeguards our planet. Protecting Indigenous rights means protecting our lands, waters, and precious ecosystems. Our Traditional Knowledge is key to combating climate change, and Indigenous Peoples’ rights, sovereignty and leadership must be centered in addressing this crisis.

Land dispossession and other discriminatory government policies created impoverished conditions on many reservations, said Brenna TwoBears, who has roots in the Ho-Chunk, Navajo and Standing Rock tribes and works for the Indigenous Environmental Network. When resources are found on tribal land, there is a history of companies offering benefits in exchange for extraction. “That creates that environment for oil and gas companies, or other natural resource extractive companies, to come in and say, ‘We can provide you with the things that you don't have,’ ” she said. Tribal governments signing agreements does not equate to community support, TwoBears said. TwoBears said many tribes want to exit the cycle of extraction. “Because of the lands that we've been removed to, and our lack of economic support, it all compounds and creates this awful cycle where we're trying to get out of it, and the only lifeline we get is from these companies, and then we take it, and then it just makes it worse. It keeps going and going,” she said. Read more at ?? https://lnkd.in/e6DXJ5D2

Trans & Two-Spirit relatives are sacred! Their voices and rights matter! These relatives have always held important responsibilities in our communities. Today their existence is under attack and we must do everything to protect and honor them. #TransRightsAreHumanRights

As Indigenous Peoples, we are far too familiar with resisting corruption, colonialism, and extractivism- our resilience runs deep, never wavering in our fight to protect and defend our lands, communities, and Mother Earth. While the shock of yesterday’s election starts to settle in, let us be reminded of the generations of resistance before us, and the many generations of resistance to come after us. We will never stop fighting for balance, equity, peace, justice, and the respect of our ways of life! Today we mourn. Tomorrow we fight!

False solutions come in many forms and hydrogen is produced 99% by fossil fuels. We have to hold these companies accountable for the lies that are being shared and the damage they continue to inflict on Mother Earth. #DefendTheSacred
