Celebrating Indigenous Peoples' Day in Milwaukee with the Hoan Bridge lighting ceremony. The colors black, red, yellow, and white represent the traditional medicine wheel. The ceremony was organized by Indigenous Business Group. Attendees, including the Potawatomi Fire Nation drum, Wisconsin tribal reps, and community members, gathered to commemorate the trials of our past and the perseverance of our communities. Milwaukee is on the ancestral homelands of the Potawatomi, Ho-Chunk, Menominee, and Ojibwe peoples. The word "Milwaukee" comes from the Ojibewmowin word "minowakiing", meaning "good earth". Wisconsin is home to 50,000 Indigenous people and 11 federally recognized tribes. The last session of the entire conference will be about building bridges between tribal member-owned businesses and tribal enterprises. The moderator will be Samantha Skenandore - Partner at Patterson Earnhart REal Bird & Wilson LLP, with panelists Zoar Fulwilder - Managing Partner at Mavid Construction and co-founder of IBG, Mark Kunstman - General Manager at Oneida Engineering Solutions, and Rob Pero - CEO of Canndigenous, Perodigm and more.
