Last week, our colleague Carmela - カルメラ Asero - アセロ attended the INSTAR Standards workshop to move forward the #internationalstandardisation dialogue. Here are some of her takeaways from the insightful workshop: ? Carlos López Rodríguez, Policy Officer for the European Travel Commission (DG CNECT, D3), presented an overview of the international landscape and the synergic role of EU standardisation strategy through international partnerships: "We shouldn't only cooperate with our like-minded partners, but also with international partners all over the world to facilitate an alignment in international standardisation, and engage globally to influence international standards while promoting EU competitiveness and technological sovereignty." ? Mission Letter to Henna Virkkunen, Executive Vice-President-designate for Tech Sovereignty, Security and Democracy was quoted about standards: "We need to work to promote EU digital norms and standards internationally and to ensure a leading role for the EU in global digital governance, in particular for AI and cybersecurity." ? The discussion also addressed the topic of scaling interoperable standards which requires a healthy ecosystem, continuous service innovation, and unlocking the unrealised value of data. ?It is important to test new standards in a real environment, consider global challenges and set performance metrics. Successful standards development requires addressing the risks and costs of early deployment, support for standardisation in the context of public procurement and the capacity to feed the outcome of applied research and projects?into standardisation activities. ? When discussing key actions on standards for Cloud-Edge-IoT Emilio Davila Gonzalez of DG CNECT D3 underlined the relevance of standards as a means to promote trade by enabling interoperability?and fostering the participation of EU experts in international standardisation, thus allowing scalable and cooperative solutions across different markets. ? Dr. Seungyun Lee of the Telecommunications Technology Association in South Korea considered how "Edge computing, as an extension of cloud computing, requires timely standards development focusing on interoperability, security, scalability, efficiency, and cost reduction to meet industry requirements."
