Over my 25 years in hip and knee arthroplasty (I started residency at Rush in 1999), I have been blessed to have so many friends and colleagues. My profession as an academic hip and knee arthroplasty surgeon is my life's work and I so cherish these relationships and partnerships. John B. Meding, MD was the managing partner of my first group in practice 19 years ago and unfortunately it did not work out. However, life teaches us all valuable lessons if we are receptive...great and loyal friends NEVER waiver or betray you! I am so proud to call John my dear friend and my partner in the Indiana Joint Replacement Institute. I am so thankful to him for his counsel, advice and friendship over the years...even when I am certain it was not comfortable (those of you reading this know that a relationship with me is not always "comfortable" ?? )! As the only remaining active The Hip Society & The Knee Society members in the state of Indiana (for now! We are actively mentoring and cultivating an environment of research and education in our younger surgeon partners), I am blessed and grateful for our friendship and partnership. We are so thankful for our Indiana Joint Replacement Institute surgeon partners, Anthony Feher and Kyle Stoops, who are taking a Saturday evening away from their families to be out in Greenfield, IN (Hancock County) educating and interacting with potential patients with knee and hip pain at the annual Steak'N Bake'N community event! Building a great hip and knee practice is more robust and "sticky" when you get out in the community and engage with potential patients, rather than focusing on gimmicky billboards or ads about robotics. Patients learn to trust you the more they get to know and interact with you and will refer their friends and family for years once you have earned their trust with compassionate medical and surgical care.
