Creating educational civil construction content to show high school students what our industry is all about is crucial. ?? Few young people understand the importance of infrastructure, and our goal through the civil construction pathway curriculum is to show those students what our industry is all about. Thank you to The Hoosier Company, Inc. for letting us get behind-the-scenes pictures and videos of their jobsite and for being a great partner. Highlighting work like this is exactly what the entering generation of students should see.

From an early age, Peter Reynolds enjoyed working with his hands, solving problems and spending time outdoors. Whether he was doing chores or helping repair a piece of machinery in the barn, Reynolds' grandfather taught him how to work through challenges with patience, optimism and creativity. These values have been essential in his career as a superintendent with Fox Contractors Corp. Working construction jobs in the summers to help pay his way through college, Reynolds finished with a degree in history from Indiana University in Bloomington. After working in the non-profit world a few years, he missed working outside, reviewing plans and solving problems. Looking for a change, Reynolds bought a small landscaping and excavating business and enjoyed self-employment for seven years. But ultimately, he wanted to work on larger projects and had particular interest in public utility work and road building. Since starting with Fox in 2018, he's been able to realize his goals. From heavy-highway to commercial site-development, every day is different and presents its own set of challenges. Reynolds approaches each project optimistically and remembers his early childhood lessons as a foundation for success.???

Last month, our 2024 class put their skills to work, building a disability-compliant ramp for a local resident through SAWs (Servants At Work, Inc.); it turns out that a group of civil construction leaders can build it! ?? It was a great way to show that our industry cares about the community. We also kicked off the day with an inspiring leadership lesson from Bob Bowen, sharing his career journey. Dustin Lambert P.E. is a Senior project manager for Milestone Contractors LP out of the Fort Wayne office. Lambert is a professional engineer and a 2014 graduate of Purdue Fort Wayne with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. He began his heavy highway career as a project engineer with INDOT until 2019, when he joined Primco as a project manager. After the company merged with Milestone in 2022, Lambert started as a project manager. He moved to his current role in 2023. Lambert, his wife of 10 years and their two sons (six and eight) reside in Auburn. Both he and his wife enjoy going to their kids’ theatre performances and sporting events. In their spare time, the family enjoys exploring nature while camping and going to Notre Dame football games to cheer on the Irish. #ICLI #ICI #leadershipdevelopment #letsbuildIN #letsbuildinleaders
