The #IUSPHB community is thrilled to spotlight our Department of Applied Health Science at Indiana University-Bloomington postdoctoral research fellow Hannah Javidi, Ph.D., who was named one of this year’s Forbes Magazine 30 Under 30 in Healthcare. In 2023, Dr. Javidi was awarded a The National Institutes of Health (NIH) five-year, nearly $1 million grant, allowing her to expand on her existing consent education program to include #condom negotiation content, tailored to the unique needs of gay, bisexual and queer teen boys. “A lot of [the research] I have done is at that intersection of digital health and adolescent health," says Dr. Javidi, "seeing how we can use apps and online interventions and programs to promote healthy sexual behaviors and beliefs.” Read more about how Dr. Javidi is filling the gap on sexual consent education in the U.S. here: https://go.iu.edu/8sJB #sexualhealtheducation #healthequity #BringOnTomorrow

Had a great time at the 2025 Recreational Therapists of Indiana state conference. We were able to have 15 of our undergraduate students attend, were able to meet with over 50+ alumni of our IU RT program, and was able to present with two amazing students in the role of positive emotion in treatment. I'm so honored to be able to lead this great program with my wonderful colleague, Dr. Jordan McIntire. #recreationaltherapistofindiana

Jessica Eise, assistant professor in IU Environmental & Occupational Health at #IUSPHB has co-authored a paper titled, “Tailoring Digital Content to Address Occupational Injustice: Improving Accessibility and Equity for Marginalized Groups.” Her research explores what prevents marginalized groups – specifically farmers – from engaging with digital content. Dr. Eise said about her findings, “It has some valuable information for digital creators to make content that is accessible and appropriate for farmers and other marginalized groups around the world who urgently need access to information in the face of climate change and other crises.” The research focuses on audience-centric and #climatechange communication, along with digital #equity and #occupational justice. Those who society considers to have low occupational standing are more likely to exhibit low confidence in regards to media usage, resulting in less engagement. To combat these self-imposed feelings of low self-esteem, Dr. Eise found that #empowerment can be used to help increase engagement with digital tools. Farmers can be empowered through active listening and including them when developers are building digital platforms to educate and assist with farming and related business. This method discussed in the article would allow farmers to better respond and quickly adapt to climate change. This #InternationalWomen’sDay, let’s #accelerate action toward a world free from bias, #stereotypes, and #discrimination —a world that celebrates #diversity, #equity, and #inclusion. We at #IUSPHB celebrate and honor all who identify as a woman.
