Youth baseball instruction for throwing and pitching.

关于我们

The Indiana Pitching Academy was founded to fill a gap in player development. Too many young players would advance from t-ball to coach pitch with poor throwing mechanics, then when they get to kid pitch those inconsistencies would follow them to the mound. The Indiana Pitching Academy provides throwing and pitching lessons for players 8-18+ years old in the Central Indiana area.

The Art of Pitching: Insights from Scott Emerson Ten months ago, Oakland Athletics pitching coach Scott Emerson sat down with Chris Townsend and delivered so many invaluable insights that I’ve now watched the interview three times! Scott has a way of simplifying what truly matters—both for pitchers and for those coaching them. His emphasis on controlling what you can control and maximizing movement with velocity is a lesson every pitcher can apply. Here are some key takeaways for anyone looking to develop pitchers and elevate their coaching approach: ? First-pitch strikes matter – Start ahead, stay ahead. ? Have a plan for 1-1 counts – It’s a pivotal moment in every at-bat. ? Movement + Velocity = Success – Pure velocity isn’t enough; movement wins. ? Location and execution are everything – Hitting your spot consistently is key. ? Control the controllables – Focus on what you can manage, not what you can’t. ? Execute your strengths consistently – Know what you do well and do it often. I’m looking forward to catching up with Scott again at the end of Spring Training 2025, but in the meantime, if you love baseball and want to hear from one of the best pitching minds in the game, check out this interview: ??? Best ? Pitcher Mobility Drill? A common problem for baseball pitchers is the gradual tightness and loss of ROM in the shoulder over the course of the game and season. The goal is to restore mobility BEFORE your athlete picks up a ball and then maintain it. Try the “2-Out Drill” to warm up your athlete before pitching and to maintain mobility between innings throughout a game.? ?? Here it is: 1?? Static Stretches - you want to start with these and hold each pose for only about 3 seconds. Exercises like the cross-body stretch and wrist flexion. 2?? Rotator Cuff Activation Drills - these will really fire up the rotator cuff and warm it up. Perform 5 circles forward and 5 circles back in both large circles and small circles. 3?? Movement Prep - here you really want to get dynamic, with cross-body hugs, swims, and field goals, about 5 each. 4?? Trunk Rotation - Lastly, we’re going to work on trunk rotation drills This entire drill might take 1-2 minutes but has been shown scientifically to improve ROM and performance over the course of a game. It’s designed to be quick enough to do for pitchers in the dugout when there are two outs and they are getting ready to head back out. Want to work with professional baseball players? A 1-year study followed 164 youth baseball players aged 7 to 13 years. The researchers gathered data on: - Height - Weight - Position - Range of motion (ROM) Guess the biggest predictor of shoulder and/or elbow pain. It wasn’t height, weight, elbow ROM, shoulder ROM, hip ROM… . . . . . . . . . . . . The biggest predictor was position. Players who listed their position as pitcher had 3x greater risk of shoulder and/or elbow pain. Make sure your young pitchers get some rest this offseason. Reference: Tajika T, Oya N, Kuboi T, et al.
