?????????? ??????????: ?? ?????????????? ???????????? ?????? ?????????? ???????????????????? As countries around the world look to build and expand cities and infrastructure, they all have a voracious appetite for one thing: #steel. But steel production comes with a hefty environmental cost—accounting for 8% of global carbon emissions. #GreenSteel offers a cleaner alternative by producing steel without using fossil fuels. A key solution is #GreenHydrogen, which emits only water when burned and is produced using electrolysis powered by renewable electricity, making it CO? free. While green steel lacks a single definition, industry standards suggest emissions targets between 0.05 and 0.4 tons of CO? per ton of steel. Technologies like #DirectReducedIron (DRI) powered by #GreenHydrogen and #ElectricArcFurnaces (EAF) enable near-zero emissions, reducing CO? by up to 97% and 88% respectively. Utilizing scrap and integrating carbon capture also cut emissions significantly. As global trade increasingly favors low-carbon products, #greensteel is becoming a premium offering. By positioning low-carbon emission steel as a distinct, value-added product, companies can not only meet environmental goals but also redefine steel production as a catalyst for a #greenerfuture. #GreenHydrogen #GreenSteel #Decarbonization #RenewableEnergy #Sustainability #NetZero #IGSC #ClimateAction #CleanEnergy #DirectReducedIron #ZeroEmission #WWFIndia #CII

India’s steel industry is at a critical juncture, as it currently contributes to 12% of the nation's total #GHG emissions, with an average of 2.54 tons of CO? emitted per ton of steel, compared to the global average of 1.91 tons. This higher intensity stems largely from reliance on coal-based production pathways. With India’s short and long term targets to achieve #NetZero emissions by 2070 as committed at COP 26, reducing emissions from steel production is essential. In response, WWF-India India and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) have launched the India Green Steel Coalition #IGSC to accelerate the journey towards low-carbon steel. #IGSC is a multi-stakeholder platform that currently comprises 14 members, which represent about 70% of India’s crude steel production capacity. #IGSC aims for a 30% reduction in carbon emissions intensity in the Indian steel sector by 2030 compared to 2023 levels by focusing on promoting innovative technologies like green hydrogen and increasing scrap utilization.
