Today ITVS shared findings from our Filmmaker-Participant Relationship study. For the first time, participant experiences (across documentary sectors) are captured at scale, as are actual filmmaker practices. Some findings are surprising, some affirm commonly held beliefs, and some offer insights that are easily addressed. I'm excited to see how the field uses the research to further its practices. This work involved ITVS staff, partners and respondents, and could only be achieved as a collective effort. Thank you to every individual and organization who played a role, and thanks to the Ford Foundation and National Endowment for the Arts for making this report possible! Let us know your thoughts!
??HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT?? We're proud and excited to release the results of our groundbreaking study The Filmmaker-Participant Relationship Unpacked: Ethical Responsibility and Impact in Documentary Filmmaking. This large-scale study—tapping 678 U.S.-based documentary filmmakers and 195 participants—sought insight from both documentary filmmakers and film participants on what works and what can be improved as the nonfiction field evolves. Special thanks to funders Ford Foundation and National Endowment for the Arts for supporting this massive accomplishment. You can read the full study here: https://lnkd.in/gq7aqyc9
