ITVS is refreshing our website and to more directly reflect our mission to expand the diversity and innovation of programming available to public media. Our work enriches the cultural landscape with the voices and visions of underrepresented communities, reflecting the interests and concerns of a diverse society, so we can be better informed and inspired by the world around us. If you believe in this work, we need your feedback on how best to highlight ourselves as we navigate the changing landscape. Please take a quick survey and help us elevate what matters to you.

Today ITVS shared findings from our Filmmaker-Participant Relationship study. For the first time, participant experiences (across documentary sectors) are captured at scale, as are actual filmmaker practices. Some findings are surprising, some affirm commonly held beliefs, and some offer insights that are easily addressed. I'm excited to see how the field uses the research to further its practices. This work involved ITVS staff, partners and respondents, and could only be achieved as a collective effort. ??HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT?? We're proud and excited to release the results of our groundbreaking study The Filmmaker-Participant Relationship Unpacked: Ethical Responsibility and Impact in Documentary Filmmaking. This large-scale study—tapping 678 U.S.-based documentary filmmakers and 195 participants—sought insight from both documentary filmmakers and film participants on what works and what can be improved as the nonfiction field evolves. Congratulations to our very own Keri Archer Brown for being named one of DOC NYC's Documentary New Leaders!

We are saddened to learn of the passing of former ITVS board member, Tammy Robinson. "Tammy was a wonderful ITVS Board Member, who was sincerely committed to independent storytellers. She understood the challenges they faced and she embraced and appreciated their innovation, passion, and stubbornness. She was also a mentor to me, especially during a particularly difficult time for our fledgling series," Lois Vossen, Executive Producer, Independent Lens said. "Tammy said, 'If people stand in the way of Independent Lens' success, I know you'll fight for the series. That's your job. Don't be afraid to make waves if you know your fight is the right one.' She was gracious, kind, had a great sense of humor, and inspired me to, well, fight for Independent Lens, especially when others said the series wasn't a priority."
