Some companies claim sustainability when switching from steel cans to composite cans. A composite can may weigh less, however, the combination of materials - paperboard, glue, poly, foil and metal - exempt the package from recycling. Once used, it will be trash. There are cheaper alternatives to tin. Plastic, waxed paperboard, poly bags, and composite cans. None of those promote brands, recycle or get reused the way that tin packaging does. Among those that do recycle, it is just an extended life on the way to the landfill. The coronavirus brought about a return to a disposable economy. All along, the reasons to purchase tin packaging remained the same. It protects, promotes and is infinitely recyclable.
