Last Wednesday, City Manager Zach Walker delivered the State of the City address at the Independence Chamber of Commerce luncheon, emphasizing the transformative IndeGO Bond, which will be on the April 8, 2025, ballot. This $197 million general obligation (G.O.) bond measure aims to fund critical capital improvement projects, including a new justice center, upgrades to the animal shelter, repairs to streets and sidewalks, preservation of historic sites, and renovations to the outdoor athletic complex. The Independence Chamber Board of Directors has unanimously endorsed the measure, emphasizing its importance for the city's infrastructure and community needs. “This bond initiative marks a historic moment for Independence,” said Walker. “From modernizing critical infrastructure to preserving our rich history, the IndeGO Bond is a blueprint for progress.” With strong support from city leaders, business groups, and community advocates, the IndeGO Bond promises to strengthen Independence as a vibrant and thriving community. I don't know about you all, but 2024 is one big blur. Our historic Square has been full of all sorts of events, a Hallmark/Chiefs movie was filmed on the square and primarily in 2 of our business this summer. Christmas for us actually started in July in 108 degree weather. As a small business district we have been enjoying the media and love for all things Hallmark and Chiefs that have led visitors to our beloved downtown. But as with all businesses, staffing is always on my mind. Managing over 140 employees has it's challenges but also has its best moments. I am truly blessed with a dedicated team of people who care about others and being a part of something bigger than themselves. Having said all that....We have needs for a few key positions. Retail Sales Manager and a Sous Chef. Yep! This is my world; staffing for a smorgasbord of industry's. We also would love a few strong bartenders with great wine and craft beverage talent. This stunning facility is more than just a clinic—it's a space dedicated to enhancing confidence and promoting wellness. From state-of-the-art equipment to a serene and welcoming ambiance, they have created something truly special for our community. This newly renovated University Health clinic represents a $5M investment in a dedicated Dermatology and Mohs Center for Eastern Jackson County. The spacious 9,000-square-foot center offers 14 exam rooms and 4 dedicated Mohs surgery rooms, serving both general dermatology patients and Mohs surgeons. Previously utilized as an imaging center, this location has been transformed into a hub of innovation and care. Members had the opportunity to explore the state-of-the-art spaces, seeing firsthand the level of care and attention to detail that went into every corner of this exceptional clinic.
