October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month. In 2018, I learned about the need to reduce the over 80% unemployment rate facing people with disabilities. That year, I changed my business model and focused on hiring people with disabilities. When the pandemic hit, people who were the last to be hired were often the first to be fired, in many cases these were people with disabilities. Giving opportunities and raising awareness about hiring equity is a core value of Isadore Nut Company. I am humbled for the community recognition and support.

Each October, during National Disability Employment Awareness Month, or “NDEAM,” we celebrate the value and talent workers with disabilities add to America’s workplaces and economy. NDEAM’s purpose is to confirm our commitment to ensuring disabled workers have access to good jobs, every month of every year. NEW! Benefits Services As a certified Work Incentive Practitioner, Laura is able to take her passionate skills of helping individuals with disabilities to the next level by teaching two pivotal steps. Not only financial planning steps, but financial well-being steps overall! Laura is able to counsel individuals with disabilities receiving Social Security, Federal, and State benefits, including healthcare coverage like Medicare and Medical Assistance (MA) and provide work incentive counseling services and support. She seeks to promote work preparation and advancement. Focusing on strengthening self-sufficiency in individuals to understand what the work incentives (special rules) are in order to keep receiving benefits. Using a person-centered approach along with a strong emphasis on helping to increase independence of managing benefits, Laurd’s hope is to help individuals realize that they have the ability within themselves to take control of their financial futures! Laura obtained her WIP-C certification through The Work Incentive Support Center (WISC) at The K. Lisa Yang and Hock E. Disability Pride Month is celebrated every July. Originally created to commemorate the passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Disability Pride Month has gained global significance in recent years. This month is used as a time to shine a light on the disability community through highlighting their history, accomplishments, and experiences. It aims to create more visibility for the disability community and to encourage people with disabilities to be their authentic selves.
