?? It’s been a whirlwind November at inCitu! We're so excited to announce that inCituAR? has hit triple digits! Our platform is now home to over 100 creators from five continents. Our global community includes government officials, architects, urban planners, real estate pros, community advocates, and other innovators who are setting a new standard for engagement around urban change. This incredible group of city builders has already published 145 projects: sustainable housing in the Bronx, a public park pavilion in Rotterdam and a dream house in Delhi. One creator even brought the festive spirit to life with a magnificent AR Christmas tree in Dublin, OH! ?? ?? ?? Our creators are demonstrating the true power of AR: it's not about the technology itself, but what it empowers us to achieve. Take the Central Ohio Transit Authority, for example. They partnered with inCitu to engage over 2,000 community members on the LinkUS transit plan. Residents experienced the proposed plan in AR as if it were already built, and voters approved the plan in this month’s election! This success story showcases how innovative, inclusive strategies can shape better, more connected, sustainable, and livable cities ???? ?? Also in November, the inCitu team embarked on a globe-trotting adventure, touching down in Barcelona, New York, and Melbourne to support our burgeoning community. We're not just crossing borders; we're breaking down barriers to participation in planning the future of our cities. ?? To our newest creators: welcome aboard! We can't wait to see how you'll transform our world, one augmented reality project at a time. ?? If you are still not using inCituAR? - there has never been a better time to join!?Sign up and publish a project for free by November 25 to get 1 free month of our Pro tier! In this week's School of Visual Arts Spatial Computing class, we had the pleasure of hosting Nick Kaufmann from inCitu in the SVA MFA Interaction studio! For those unfamiliar, InCitu is an incredible augmented reality tool designed to revolutionize public engagement. It enables communities to visualize potential volumes and buildings in their environments—empowering them to understand, participate in, and get excited about what’s coming to their public spaces. Nick walked us through the company’s history and even led a hands-on workshop! We crafted clay sculptures of buildings, scanned them, learned some Blender tricks, and imported them into the InCitu platform—a fun and interactive way to explore AR workflows. ???? This session highlighted the power of tools like InCitu to make complex planning concepts accessible to non-industry audiences. It's a game-changer for fostering community collaboration! Thank you, Nick, for sharing your knowledge, insights, and creative energy. If you’re curious about how AR can transform public engagement or want to integrate custom models into your projects, I highly recommend reaching out to InCitu—it’s simple to get started (which means tons of engineering went into it) ! #AugmentedReality #UrbanPlanning #SpatialComputing #InCitu #PublicEngagement #DigitalInnovation

The housing shortage is a solvable crisis. Up for Growth’s latest report calls for action from policymakers, advocates, and all stakeholders to build the homes America needs. inCitu was recently featured in Forbes among urban tech solutions for the housing crisis. How can better communication about the future drive change? Dana Chermesh-Reshef says, "It’s about getting the unimaginable ideas and bringing them to something that people can digest and relate to.” Read and share UFG's report on Housing Underproduction here: https://bit.ly/4e781MH

??Ever struggle to align content with location based AR? ?With inCitu, no need to run back and forth between PC and mobile, edit your city and save rotation, scale, height and position adjustments directly from the AR view! ??We built this feature to support our team in the field, managing remote projects. It's allowed us to avoid costly flights by training locals to make on site adjustments, it pushes the limits of current VPS technology, effectively expanding the coverage area with manual offsets. Edit mode is now available to all inCitu users! Finally back in Brooklyn, still overwhelmed from last week at the Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona ??! ?? Thank you to everyone who connected with us, shared ideas, and reinforced our belief that #cities are where democracy and collaboration thrive. We leave inspired and (even!) optimistic, ready to keep pushing for the transformations we envision at inCitu of #transparency and #inclusion as strategies for building #trust and #resiliency in communities worldwide. ?? Special thanks to our hosts @ #SCEWC24, and to all those who made this week unforgettable. So fun to reconnect with old friends like Tyler Svitak, Jason Whittet, Aarti Tandon, Sander Dolder, John Paul Farmer, Gianluca Galletto including my fellows #momentreprenuers Aline Muylaert and Jacqueline Lu, and to meet and hang with new friends and city enthusiasts Hubert Beroche, Michael Lake, shlomit shohat, Or Ben Simhon, nir levlovich, Maja de Neergaard, Dr Hila Oren, Jeremy M. ??????Wow, Barcelona! Um, when can we come back? It's SO nice that the home of the largest urban technology conference is surrounded by such a strong urban fabric, civic processes, and local culture. A constant reminder that behind tools and tech there's always people, their relationships, imaginations, assumptions, fears, and dreams. I believe digital technology can still learn more from good cities than the other way around-- we can assist this process by building digital tools that help us spend more time in out in the city, out in the world, directly interacting with people, having important+ordinary conversations, and taking care of our built and natural environment together. It's been a sobering week (lets be real, more than a week). More than ever we risk getting trapped in abstract rhetoric about the future, people, and places-- a powerful antidote to polarization and dehumanization will always be direct, lived, shared experiences, and "going to see for yourself" in the spirit of Jane Jacobs. A common fear around spatial computing is that it could be used to live in separate realities (whether in conflict or detente). This is especially true for VR and online communities in general, but it could be a risk of AR too (see China Mieville's City and The City, Greg Lindsay's forthcoming Metaverse Metropolis research, or Keiichi Matsuda's short film Hyperreality). The truth is we've been living in different worlds long before "Simultaneous Localization and Mapping", and used wrongly, models and simulations can be very harmful, but there is also this potential for the current wave of spatial media to bring us back to our bodies and the human scale, help us see through each other's eyes, dream together, and unlock previously unimaginable futures. I felt so lucky to meet so many new and old friends this week who are leading the way towards wiser and more collaborative urban futures. The spirit of international cooperation was particularly comforting in these uncertain geopolitical times, and left me more determined to come home and get more involved in the city where I live. Thanks to everyone who visited inCitu at our booth and hosted us at your gatherings (HUGE shoutout Michael Lake and the Leading Cities community)-- let's connect again soon! Also, if you are part of the growing number of people working at the intersection of XR or Immersive Media and Cities-- we should all know each other better-- how might that happen? an XR Cities or digital placemaking conference? ?? Huge congratulations to our clients at Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) for successfully passing the LinkUS Transit Plan! ?????? ?? This landmark approval highlights COTA’s commitment to making #cityplanning accessible and relatable. By transforming complex information into engaging, human-scale stories through narrative, event programming, and #AugmentedReality, COTA has shown how planning can truly meet people where they are. Since the launch, more than 2,073 individuals interacted with the future plan on its actual site using inCitu! ??????? ?? It's also a powerful reminder that everyday citizens can — and should — shape the future of their communities and connect subject matter expertise with local knowledge. With initiatives like this, COTA and their partners are setting a new standard for public engagement in urban planning, offering a master class in experiential design for anyone interested in using #AR to build trust and strengthen community bonds. ?? Transparency can be challenging for cities, but it’s a two-way street. When residents get a seat at the table, it opens up possibilities for positive outcomes that might otherwise remain unrealized. COTA’s approach is a shining example of how innovative, inclusive strategies can build better, more connected, sustainable, and liveable cities. Central #Ohio, we see you!
