Kudos to Stichting NETNECkanker and vzw NET&MEN Kanker Belgium for presenting Think NENs Global Educational Program for Primary Care Physicians to the medical experts at the Dutch and Belgium ENETS Centres of Excellence.? ?? The NET patient perspective was voiced at the annual Dutch Belgian Neuroendocrine Tumor Society (DBNETS) conference in October. DB-NETS is a collaboration between the Dutch and Belgium ENETS Centres of Excellence. ?? Dirk Van Genechten, on behalf of the VZW NET&MEN Kanker, and Faye Tukker-Wijntjes, on behalf of the Stichting NETNECkanker, urged the specialists to talk about this free CME-accredited e-learning course with the primary physicians they are in contact with, to make sure more PCPs can better understand NENs and improve NEN diagnostics, care and patient outcomes.? ?? Neuroendocrine cancer of the pancreas is a rare cancer that starts in specific cells within the pancreas called neuroendocrine cells. This makes it a very different disease to pancreatic cancer (adenocarcinoma) – which starts in other cells within the pancreas and has a very different treatment pathway and outcome. ?? ?? Merkel Cell Carcinoma (MCC) is a very rare neuroendocrine carcinoma that can spread quite quickly to surrounding skin and can metastasize to internal organs such as the liver and/or lungs. ?? Mariska from the Netherlands had a simple red spot on her face. It grew rather quickly and in 6 weeks it had grown a serious lump. She was lucky to have a GP who suspected something more and sent her for examination.? ?? It is vital that healthcare professionals are aware of Merkel Cell Carcinoma to be able to suspect it in patients with common symptoms. ??
