    "So I've got my guilty pleasure show and my guilty pleasure topic..." Y'all, I'm pretty sure you have no idea where that^^ statement is going ?? Seriously though, what IS thought leadership!?! How do you become a thought leader?!? And why does it matter in the marketing mix!?! I shared about this topic at INBOUND, and I used my 4-pillar thought leadership framework to articulate some differences between SMEs, influencers, and thought leaders. A few take-aways: - Don't focus solely on executives or founders. Think holistically about the talent in your organization as you think about building thought leaders. - The pillars are credibility, profile, prolific, and depth of ideas. The pillars work together in tandem and there's no "best" pillar. You need to score yourself to get a baseline, and then create a plan, based on pillars where you are weak. - You need TIME and RESOURCES to grow in the "depth of ideas" pillar. People don't just sit alone in a room thinking smart thoughts! They need time to experiment, iterate, and codify their work to actually come up with new and novel insights. - Thought leadership requires 2 elements: have thoughts, be a leader. You can be good at your job, and that doesn't make you a thought leader. You can be "famous", but that doesn't make you a thought leader. Without BOTH elements, you're not a thought leader. - You can have a ghostwriter, but not a ghost-thinker. Without a significant body of source material, there's no one for a ghostwriter to "ghost"!
