#Capitalism teaches us that there is not enough to go around. It teaches us that we should hoard what we have, and that when times are tight, we should isolate and keep our meagre resources to ourselves. #Colonialism teaches us that in order to acquire more things, someone else must lose access to that thing. It teaches us that our gain is the direct consequence of another person's loss - that there cannot be more than one winner at any time. What if we embraced ideas of #abundance? What if we used hard times as an opportunity to go deeper into our communities, to ensure that no one is left behind? What if we depended on each other, so that none of us would have to depend on the corporations and states that steal our time, livelihoods, culture, and resources? What if we saw our own success and survival as a direct consequence of our successful communities, rather than something that detracts or takes us away from community work? To learn more about how you can generate more care, learning, knowledge and resources in your community, especially focussing on the ways that the #industrialbordercomplex works to make those things inaccessible to forcibly displaced people, then consider applying for our Winter Mentorship Program. It's a great opportunity to learn about systemic oppression, gain valuable skills for dismantling those systems, and a space to bask in challenging and like minded community also fighting for a better world. https://lnkd.in/g5D8Eejr

Colonialism - and the action of decolonization - is a key focus of what activists and humanitarians must look towards, if we want to achieve collective liberation. That said, many of us may feel unable to imagine what steps we can even take to begin unlearning the insidious ways that colonialism shows up in our lives. Colonialism has shaped our world in millions of ways that continue to harm us all, and we can often map the amount of privilege we have against the role our ancestors played in past colonial practices. It might surprise you to learn that a significant part of our Mentorship Program is learning to take stock of your own relationship with colonialism. This includes learning about colonialism as it shows up today, globally significant colonial events such as the Doctrine of Discovery, and the insidious nature of colonialism in humanitarian and activist groups - but it also involves significant guided reflection into the ways that colonialism shapes your own life and actions. It also involves actively learning to shift the mindsets and actions that you might be doing which recreate colonial dynamics in your life, to be more in line with the values you hope to embody. If you are excited to be a part of the active movement for #decolonization and #collectiveliberation, but are struggling to imagine what you can do, then why not enroll in our Mentorship Program? When we are tired and burnt out, dedicating ourselves to learning more about #structuresofoppression and what we can do about them can be an invaluable way to return to the fight revitalized and skilled up. Applications are open now! https://lnkd.in/g5D8Eejr

Meet Tomia, a mentee turned mentor in our 2024 Mentorship Program! Tomia is a social entrepreneur and community leader in Cameroon, where she founded and runs Children's Fate, a nonprofit supporting children and youth made vulnerable. Her nonprofit has served over 2,000 displaced children since it started in 2022. She has trained 102 youths in entrepreneurship, with many establishing their own businesses. We are so lucky to have you in our community, Tomia! Reflecting on her journey at the end of the program, Tomia shared: "Leading in the humanitarian sector means being a champion for vulnerable persons. It's about inspiring action, fostering collaboration, and ensuring every decision prioritizes their well-being. Most of my learning comes from working alongside our team and directly with the children and youth we serve. It's an ongoing journey of listening, adapting, and striving for the best possible impact." This life-changing work is only possible through the power of fiscal accompaniment—your commitment to sustaining and expanding our programs. Your support allowed humanitarian leaders like Tomia to access the training and resources needed to amplify the impact of her work. Savior mentalities are rife in humanitarians - and are a form of colonialism in humanitarian spaces. We must unlearn these violent ideas and replace them with more equitable models of helping one another. Where do you see #saviormentalities creeping up in your work?

The border industrial complex is a multi-billion dollar industry, using military surveillance, technology and violence to harm forcibly displaced people - and everyone else. But what is it exactly, and how do we fight it? Why do charities not do something about it? If you're interested in learning more about the border industrial complex - and generating some ideas for tackling this designed violence once and for all - then we'd love to have you in our mentorship cohort. Consider applying (link in bio) before the 28th October to be considered for our program. We also create lots of free online resources which you can find via our website. The UN special rapporteur on Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance, professor E. Tendayi Achiume, says: “governments, non-state actors, and companies are developing and deploying emerging digital technologies in ways that are uniquely experimental, dangerous, and racially discriminatory in the border and immigration enforcement context. The investors facilitating these technological developments must be held to account for propping up these tools of control, and for essentially profiting from the abuse of displaced populations — abuse that sometimes even results in death." deal or no deal? #borderindustrialcomplex

Struggling to move between "frontline" humanitarian work and humanitarians' "regular, day-to-day" lifestyles can be a huge challenge for people whose liberation work takes them through different settings. The difficult feelings these transitions can bring up require us to both engage meaningfully in our own wellness practices, and can also prompt us to examine the root causes of the inequities that can make humanitarians feel so uncomfortable. At In-Sight, we know that humanitarian wellness practice is key for being as effective as we can in the fight for collective liberation. If you want to learn more, consider signing up to our mentorship program - or look on the "Humanitarian Wellness" page on our website for even more resources and tips. https://lnkd.in/gi_z9tuc #wellness #humanitarianwellness #reversecultureshock #reentrysyndrome
