? UAS Mission Planning Tool ? ? In public safety operations, vast areas need to be covered with limited resources. UAS are emerging as great solution for search and rescue, fire situational awareness, and terrain recognition. However, planning for the most optimum coverage and allocation of resources is a manual and non effective process. Our mission planning tools automatically provide UAS routes and commands the vehicles from TAK, given a fleet and a search area, including priority areas and no fly zones. In fire resource operations, our rules are used to locate heat signatures along predetermined routes. By incorporating for progression predictions from our proprietary model, UAS are able to monitor the fire front and spot ignitions that can be subsequently integrated back into the model to refine predictions of areas with highest risk of ignition. Additionally, during operations on no connectivity areas, UAS serve?a relay to transmit operational videos and location data from and to firefighters, ensuring their safety. ? In personnel search and tracking missions, our tool allows UAS to be deployed to specific areas based on the potential locations of missing individuals or information provided by user. Our pre-mission planner generates optimal paths for each UAS to guarantee efficient coverage of the defined area. The UAS then employ computer vision to locate individuals, and upon identification, real-time video and location results can be shared with operators. The video demonstrates the effectiveness of our pre-mission planner in search area planning. Users can efficiently distribute UAS resources with simple commands. Users specify the search area, no-fly zones, and the number of UAS,?and the system automatically generates the most effective flight paths and distribution of UAS, which will be drawn in real-time on the map. This process provides a quick response, allowing users to complete the path generation operation in milliseconds. Huge thanks to Ping Wu and Roberto Whitley for their hard work in developing this UAS Mission Planning Tool ?? ? #UASMissionPlanning #PublicSafetyTech #SearchAndRescue #FireManagement #AutonomousOperations

The Improving Aviation team, including Roberto Whitley, Dave Zader, and Rocio Frej Vitalle,?returned from a productive week at #CIVTAK24, where we engaged with public safety officers, emergency responders, and other innovators in the field of situational awareness technology. ? We gathered insights from our end users and explored new ways to enhance our technologies for real-world applications. Here are some highlights: ? ?? Our interactions with firefighters have led to multiple potential collaborations to obtain video imagery and critical local data to support the development of our Wildfire Risk Management and Ember Spread Model. By utilizing computer vision applications to detect objects of interest, we aim to enhance both the speed and accuracy of detections, automate tasks, and reduce the user’s workload, all while maintaining real-time awareness of personnel. This input will refine our use of heat signatures to improve wildfire spread predictions, ensuring firefighters remain safe and are deployed to the most effective areas. ? ? Public safety officials underscored the need for enhancing resource management. From lower-cost connectivity solutions to track emergency responders in the ground, to effective airspace management that would enable multiple UAS to operate in close proximity with manned aircraft, while ensuring the highest standards of safety and spatial awareness. ? A big thank you to all the end users who provided their insights and to the CIVTAK community for fostering innovation. We’re looking forward to continuing the conversation and pushing the boundaries of situational awareness. ? #SituationalAwareness #TAKCommunity #WildfireRiskManagement #DroneTechnology #Innovation #PublicSafety
