We were able to utilize maybe the last workable day in the foreseeable future in Owenboro, KY to replace these curbs for our client. Today I had my heart broken…in the best possible way. This morning I joined several others from IFMA Cincinnati and other organizations to volunteer for Shoes 4 the Shoeless. This organization has been on my radar for a few years now, but today was my first day to volunteer with them. My little volunteer team of 3 had the privilege of meeting 5 different kiddos, ages 5-10. 4 boys and 1 girl. They were all so sweet! Our first kiddo pulled at my heartstrings because he was a 5 year old kindergartener, same as one of my sons. He was wearing glasses, which my son just got a prescription for this week. When I told him “hey my little boy is going to start wearing glasses” he lit up like that was the coolest thing ever. So fun to just make a small connection with him. Our last kiddo was the one that broke my heart wide open though…he was so polite, so sweet, age 9. Shy, maybe a little embarrassed. Was one of the kiddos we were able to provide two pairs for…ifyky. Well we get him all set and he asks one of the other ladies on my group if he can give her a hug. Of course she said yes! Well once myself and the other lady in our group walked him to the exit he shyly looks up at us and says “can I give you both a hug too?” Oh sweet child. My momma heart just broke right open to him. I wanted to give him a never ending hug! In the volunteer wrap up portion I found out that the average cost to provide a pair of shoes and multiple pairs of socks is $31 per kid! That includes full organization cost. I was amazed to hear this figure. We are so proud of this project in Clinton, MD. Rafael & his team created a modern look for this previously bare, red brick building. The Community Healthcare Trust team knocked this out of the park with their direction on the new color scheme! Thanks to Gabe Lehman and PPG for taking the time to create and edit renderings for our client. Gabe even sent stained bricks to our client so they could see a physical representation of the new look. Thanks also to Pedro Silva for the fantastic drone footage and edit here.
