Charlesbank Capital Partners' IMPLAN acquisition marks one of those deals that blends economics, analytics and technology, right up The Wall Street Journal's alley. From its roots as a computer model developed by the U.S. Forest Service, today the company's data-analytics applications power research and impact models on such varied issues as the economic toll of California wildfires and the boom in small breweries.
