What an honor for Malbastone to be invited and participate in the IMPEL workshop this week at Berkeley Lab. It was awesome collaborating with so many innovators from across the country focused on commercializing new building technologies. Thank you to our hosts at IMPEL at Berkeley Lab and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for funding this program in recognition of how difficult the journey is from great idea to commercial scale.?Here we go! Fun facts: 1. This is where Leslie Groves (aka Matt Damon) first met Oppenheimer in real life!? 2. These grounds have been walked by 16 Nobel Prize winners and now at least one entrepreneur developing Magnesium Oxide technology to help decarbonize how we build ??

Feeling excited from the past week, where Stepwise participated in not one but TWO Greentown Labs Climatetech Summits in Boston and Houston. I joined a Rockstar panel to discuss how government entities can be game-changers for startups. It was a pleasure to share the stage with leaders like Elizabeth Kennedy of Activate, Annie Dillon of Elemental Impact, Jeff Marootian of the U.S. Department of Energy, Leslie Nash of MassCEC, and Christian Vandervort of ARPA-E. Thank you for your support of Stepwise! My advice to startups applying for grants: 1) Choose grants that align with your strategic goals—don’t mold your vision to fit a grant prompt. 2) Use grant applications to build partnerships with harder-to-reach groups like municipalities and corporations. Special shoutout to our mini IMPEL at Berkeley Lab reunion with Kristeen Reynolds, CPA and Laura Wong! Thank you, Greentown Labs, for coalescing a stronger community every year to drive climate innovation. ?? #Climatetech #GovernmentPartnerships #Innovation

Decarbonizing the built environment will require collaboration across the climatetech ecosystem, with corporate leaders, investors, policymakers, and others working in concert with technology entrepreneurs to scale solutions. That’s why our fall 2024 Sector Pitch Day with IMPEL at Berkeley Lab explored groundbreaking building tech innovations and the partnerships necessary to help them scale. Part of our quarterly Sector Pitch Day series, we brought together 10 building tech startups—Climative, Counterbalance Software, Eco-Shelter, Enersion Inc., Monaire, Reframe Systems, Revert Technologies, Simplus Systems, Stepwise, and Uplift—to pitch onstage, plus reverse pitches from Saint-Gobain, Holcim, Zacua Ventures, and Building Ventures.
