In the newest episode of Your AI Roadmap,?Gracie Ermi, Machine Learning Scientist at Impact Observatory, discusses how she uses machine learning on satellite imagery to create land cover maps. ?? ?? Gracie also discusses her career to inspire the next generation of innovators. As an AAAS IF/THEN Ambassador and an AGU Voices for Science Fellow, she has spoken to over 150 audiences around the world about the intersection of conservation and technology.
My episode of Your AI Roadmap podcast is out now! I had a great time talking to Dr. Joan Palmiter Bajorek about some of the ways AI is used to monitor the health of our planet ?? Check it out!

??? Our newest land cover map takes a look back in time at the Earth in the 1980s. This data was made using historic satellite imagery from Landsat allowing you to explore how our planet has evolved over the decades. We are already finding fascinating insights into shifting landscapes and environmental changes. ??? ??? Check out this dramatic example of human expansion across Texas from 1985 to 2023 presented this morning during the Esri User Conference plenary. #EsriUC #Landsat #ImpactObservatory #LandCover

Land cover data is essential to respond to climate change. ?? Our Product Manager, Gabriella Saccocio, represented Impact Observatory and spoke on using satellite imagery to empower policy-makers with data to address environmental issues at Inventures 2024.
Last week I spoke on the panel, Harnessing the Power of Space Technology for Climate Action, at the Inventures conference in Calgary, Canada. There were several interesting questions about accessing analytics on satellite imagery for environmental use cases. ?? ?? As a product manager at Impact Observatory, my goal is to address these obstacles through our products, so it was exciting to receive engagement from an audience on this challenging topic that I encounter on a near-daily basis. As cloud computing, machine learning, and satellite remote sensing advance simultaneously, we are combining these technologies to provide better insights on satellite imagery to solve real-world problems. Looking forward to more in-person events and opportunities to connect with the community! Thanks to Emma M. Louden for moderating and Payton Barnwell for suggesting me for the panel! ?
